The Linda Bogdan Memorial Futures Tournament is a Men's $10,000 Clay Court Tournament that will be held at the Tennis Club of Rochester on June 29th to July 4th.

Linda was an avid tennis player and supporter of the game of tennis. She was an outstanding amateur tennis player, winning several club championships at the West Side Tennis Club at Forest Hills, N.Y., in both singles and doubles. It is because of her generosity and passion for the game that the Tennis Club of Rochester was able to bring this tournament to our facility and community.

When the Buffalo Tournament was cancelled on short notice four years ago. Ms. Bogdan and the Bills Organization agreed to be our Title Sponsor and give us the resources to put on this special event.

This tournament has become one of the favorite stops on the Futures Tour for the players working their way up the rankings.  Without her involvement from the beginning we would never have had the opportunity to bring these memories to the Rochester and Buffalo Tennis communities.

The Bills have also supported tournaments in Detroit and downstate New York.  They are true tennis ambassadors and have been recognized by the USTA for their promotion of the game.  Mr. Wilson, an avid player himself and his wife Mary who is a nationally ranked age group player have asked us to continue the tournament in her memory.

Ms Bogdan was the only active female scout in the NFL and daughter of Buffalo Bills owner Ralph C. Wilson Jr.

She held the title of vice president and assistant director of college and pro scouting for the Bills for the past three years. Prior to that, she was corporate vice president for 15 years.

Ms. Bogdan was an active scout for the Bills since 1986. Her love for football dated to her childhood in suburban Detroit. Before her father purchased the Bills in 1960, she accompanied him to Lions games when he owned a small portion of the NFL club. She also played touch football with him and friends from the neighborhood.

She had gone on occasional scouting assignments for the Bills for five or six years before her official appointment. But in 1986 she asked her father for a scouting position, because, as she said, she "got tired of too many 2-14 seasons."

As a former Buffalonian who is still a die hard fan, I can appreciate those feelings and have special memories of our run of four super bowls appearances.

We wish to thank the Bills and Mr. Wilson for their continued support of tennis and this tournament and are honored to have the tournament named after Ms. Bogdan.

Steve Pike, Tournament Director
